Development of a windows-based program to analyze positional plagiocephaly
Lee Kyoung-Moo

Abstract
Objectives: Positional plagiocephaly can cause cosmetic problems and is related to child development. Early diagnosis is important because positional plagiocephaly is progressive and it becomes more difficult to correct in older children. In this study, we tried to analyze the vertex view picture of the child with plagiocephay through diverse methods to assess the severity of plagiocephaly.

Methods: The methods of measurement and analysis of plagiocephaly is diverse and anatomical reference points and their namings are mostly different. In this study, we tried to find out the current trend about the measurement and analysis of plagiocephaly. Based on these findings, we developed a windows-based program to analyze the plagiocephaly in the vertex view of the plagiocephalic children.

Results: With the analysis program, we could measure the anteroposterior length, width of the cranial vault, calculate the cephalic index easily. We could also acquire cranial vault asymmety, cranial vault asymmety index with various diagonals like diagonal lines between any reference points researchers want to use, diagonals which make 30 degree or 40 degree with sagittal plane or diagonals of the rectangle tangential to the cranial vault. Frontal and occipital inclination angle could be acquired by calculating the degree between the coronal line and the line connecting the two points at which the two diagonals meeting the posterior cranial vault.

Conclusions: We developed a windows-based program to assess plagiocephaly which could measure and analyze plagiocephaly diversely and conveniently.
